Don’t toy with my emotions, man...
That does appear to be an intercooler, though.

But the BRZ is supposed to be like a million pounds lighter than the mustang
Get outta here

Mine is almost exactly 1000lbs lighter than my friend’s same model year Mustang GT.

Looks like a car. Still early enough and camo’ed enough that I wouldn’t put too much stock in appearance other than an overall size and probable existence.
It does look like an intercooler through the grille... though if I were doing the camo for the next BRZ I absolutely would zip tie an intercooler to the front of the core support as part of the deception (if it didn’t already have one)
.

And yet, less than half the power.

Oh I was just off by a couple of zeros no biggie.

With the same tires (different sizes but brand & compound) and drivers of equal skill level, I’m about 1s slower on a 1.7mile (85 second) course. My car also cost more than $10k less to buy and about $100 per track day less in consumables.

Yeah, I understand and appreciate the niche the car occupies. I would consider owning one. It’d be a tough choice of that or a 370z.
![]() 08/13/2020 at 12:52 |
|
They are very different cars, the 370z is more of a cruiser while the 86 is a more classic lightweight sportscar. The Z can go to a track or do an autox, but it doesn’t feel at home there (I’ve instructed people with them at both autox and track), it’s not a bad car to play with and you can definitely have a great time with one but there’s a reason why they mostly get turned into drift cars instead of track cars.

I am liking it so far. The car world needs more sport coupes.

They DID say it was going to be NA, so maybe this is a Toyota 86? They’ve got the Supra though huh. . .

I spy... an intercooler and staggered tires.
![]() 08/13/2020 at 14:05 |

That looks like fixed glass, and a standard coupe trunk.
Booooooooooo. Why can’t they look at the current market and realize that people want storage and versatility. In othe r words it needs to be a liftback!

I see a lot of this.but a more generic version
![]() 08/13/2020 at 14:49 |

I’ll just leave this hear
![]() 08/13/2020 at 15:20 |

I think the staggered tires is just due to the angle of the shot, here’s a couple other angles and they look pretty square to me:
![]() 08/13/2020 at 15:24 |

As long as the opening is the same size as the first gen that’s not an issue. The rear seats fold down and I can get a full set of track tires, tools, and a couple of folding chairs in there while still having room for two up front. I’d prefer a hatch since then the process would be even easier, but that could reduce structural rigidity which is pretty important for a sportscar.

Looks less swoopy than the Supra, so
![]() 08/13/2020 at 15:29 |

The body looks pretty production ready to me .
![]() 08/13/2020 at 16:01 |

The loss of structural rigidity Can cab be engendered around, the real cost would be weight. But I’d be willing for the car to gain 100lbs if that meant making it more useful. I’ve owned hatches, and coupes and I always hate owning a coupe cuz it’s a PITA to load stuff into it. I don’t even like having a sedan, but at least then you have the rear doors to make things easier.
![]() 08/13/2020 at 16:03 |

No it needs
RWD hatches.
RWD liftbacks
Shooting brakes
Coupes can die out I’d be fine with that.

Quiet, you fool! If they look at the market it will become a sport crossover!
![]() 08/13/2020 at 16:48 |

What you mean is a C5
![]() 08/13/2020 at 17:20 |
|
Kind of looks like a Corolla coupe, if they still made one.
![]() 08/13/2020 at 20:14 |
|
For the same money I would prefer a C5. But if I needed a new car that’s reliable and has a warranty...
![]() 08/13/2020 at 20:26 |

You are the warranty!
![]() 08/13/2020 at 20:40 |

Yeah, but if my daily breaks, it absorbs time and money that could be going into my decrepit VWs.

It will be fiiiiiiiiiine

That’s not surprising - one thing I recall Tada saying was that he wanted it to be a square setup originally, so I would be more surprised if they went away from it. They do look beefier than whats on the current 86, though.
